The JFK Library in Boston, closed after President Trump's executive order caused layoffs at the museum, is back open.

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston was forced to close Tuesday due to the “sudden dismissal of federal employees,” the library’s foundation said in a statement to CNN.

The JFK Library in Boston abruptly closed on Tuesday afternoon after the "sudden dismissal" of workers due to an executive order by President Trump, the JFK Library Foundation said. The National Archives told CBS News the library will reopen on Wednesday.

The National Archives, which administers the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston, announced the library will reopen one day after it was closed "until further notice."

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum abruptly closed indefinitely on Tuesday afternoon, following an executive order that triggered a new round of federal layoffs. But the library reopened Wednesday morning — without reinstating fired workers.

The news came just hours after the sudden shutdown of the presidential library, which is overseen by the National Archives.

The library closed abruptly Tuesday, with visitors escorted out of the building after the Trump administration ordered the institution to fire critical employees.

However brief, the closure of the library was one of the myriad knock-on effects from President Trump’s and his billionaire ally Elon Musk’s high-speed efforts to reduce the federal government.
