MLB insider Mark Feinsand suggested the Phillies pursue Jansen, a four-time All-Star with 456 career saves, in the coming weeks. The 37-year-old Jansen entered Tuesday with nine saves and a 5.02 ERA in 14.1 innings.
They don't often change for the reason that the Phillies closer role is changing, which is that the top guy in the pecking order, Jose Alvarado, failed a PED test. He's suspended for 80 regular season games and also the postseason.
One guy cheated and the other guy's hurt, but the Phillies are deep, supposedly. Let's see that depth pay off.
