WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans are considering adding a provision to President Trump’s tax cut bill that would further cut Medicaid, alarming hospitals and potentially squeezing state budgets even further.

While the two bills are similar on the major tax provisions, how they work out their differences in the coming weeks will determine how quickly they can get a final product over the finish line. President Donald Trump is pushing to have the legislation on his desk by July 4th.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, House Speaker Mike Johnson and administration officials are pressing Republican lawmakers to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act so Trump can sign it into law before the July 4 U.
