A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Des Moines for Polk and several surrounding counties.

On Monday at 2:45 p.m. a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 3:30 p.m. The warning is for Wyandotte, Clay, Platte, Caldwell, Clinton and Ray counties.

An updated severe thunderstorm warning was released by the NWS Fort Worth TX on Monday at 3:46 p.m. in effect until 4:30 p.m. The warning is for Wise, Jack and Montague counties.

Another round of potentially severe storms is expected Sunday evening. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Johnson, Parker, Tarrant and Hood counties until 10:15 p.m. Winds up to 60 mph and half-dollar-sized hail are possible.

At least 9 people are dead in Kentucky, 7 in Missouri and 2 in Virginia as an outbreak of severe weather takes hold of the country from the Heartland to the East Coast.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Denver at 2:53 p.m. May 18. It includes Larimer and Weld counties.

The storm was the latest severe weather to cause deaths and widespread damage in Kentucky. Two months ago, at least 24 people died in a round of storms that swelled creeks and submerged roads. Hundreds of people were rescued, and most of the deaths were caused by vehicles getting stuck in high water.

Some homes in eastern Colorado were badly damaged after multiple tornadoes touched down in parts of Adams County and Elbert County.
