LOS ANGELES – A police officer was "ambushed" on June 25 after attempting to detain a man suspected in a separate shooting in Santa Monica, California, authorities said.

Police said the officer initially approached the 31-year-old because he recognized him as the suspect in a Waymo shooting that left two juveniles hurt on Sunday.
