Percy Jackson and the Olympians will not explain Lance Reddick's recasting in Season 2. The actor played Zeus with such gravitas, the show struggled to find someone to take over after his passing. Series creator Rick Riordan said they "lucked out" with Courtney B. Vance casting.

When the Disney+ series returns for season 2, Courtney B. Vance will play the role of Zeus, taking over as the god of thunder after season 1 cast member Reddick died in 2023 at age 60. But the Emmy- and Tony-winning Vance made sure to pay homage to Reddick before sitting on his vacant throne in Olympus.

The marketing campaign for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is slowly ramping up for its December 2025 release. It has been known for a while that 65-year-old Courtney B.

Ahead of Season 2 of Percy Jackson arriving on Disney+ this December, its star and producers shared the process behind replacing Lance Reddick as Zeus after his death. Executive producer Craig Silverstein shared this to Entertainment Weekly:

Last year, it was confirmed that Courtney B Vance will take over the role of Zeus for season 2. However, considering Zeus often arrives in different forms in the books, the show's bosses didn't feel the need for the new season to address the recasting.
