More than three years after a plan for a National Juneteenth Museum was hatched, developers have secured land in Fort Worth.

Fort Worth also plans to make a $15 million contribution to the Juneteenth museum once the nonprofit confirms it has two-thirds of the project’s planned construction costs on-hand without the city’s funding. The city initially pledged its financial commitment to the project in September 2022.

Museum officials hope to have the grand opening in 2026, when Opal Lee, the grandmother of Juneteenth​, turns 100 years old.

NBC 5 is getting an exclusive look at plans for the future National Juneteenth Museum in Fort Worth. On Tuesday, the Fort Worth City Council will vote on whether to approve the use of the proposed land for the museum, which would be located at the corner of New York Avenue and Rosedale Street.
