Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the military to “prepare to defend” the Druze inhabitants of Jaramana city near Syria’s capital Damascus. This comes in a new escalation by Netanyahu's government against the new administration in Syria, which is demanding an end to the ongoing Israeli violations of the country's sovereignty.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s defense ministry on Saturday said the military has been instructed to prepare to defend a Druze settlement in the suburbs of Damascus, asserting that the minority it has vowed to protect was “under attack” by Syrian forces.

The Druze village that is currently under attack is the town of Jaramana, which is on the outskirts of Damascus.

The Israeli Army has carried out military strikes on southern Syria, days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called to demilitarise the area. Two people were killed after bombing on a military unit close to the capital city of Damascus.
