MLB Home Run Derby was a big hit for ESPN. ESPN and ESPN2 televised the annual contest on Monday. Seattle Mariners All-Star catcher Cal Raleigh continued his torrid start to the 2025 season by winning without any room to spare.

The baseball world converged in Atlanta for an entertaining edition with the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby Monday night at Truist Park. After a underwhelming event last year in Texas, fans saw balls soar over 500 feet and a late rally from a hometown slugger.

With the top four advancing from the first round, Raleigh tied Brent Rooker (17 home runs) for fourth. The tiebreaker was based on longest home run distance, meaning Raleigh (470.61 feet) advanced, while Rooker (470.53) was eliminated. To be clear: .08 feet is .96 inches. Raleigh advanced by less than one inch.

Cal Raleigh was just as successful with the first robot umpire All-Star challenge as he was in the Home Run Derby. “You take ‘em any way you can get ’em boys,” Detroit pitcher Tarik Skubal said on the mound.
