US women shut out of medals in final race at world championships, but still have best showing in four decades.

American Mikaela Shiffrin was in the hunt for a record 16th Alpine Skiing World Championships medal on Saturday after going third fastest in the first run of the final women's slalom led by Switzerland's Camille Rast.

US star Mikaela Shiffrin finished fifth to miss out on a historic world medal as Switzerland's Camille Rast won the women's slalom in Saalbach on Saturday. Both Shiffrin and Cranz have won 15 world championships medals.

Camille Rast won slalom gold in a Swiss one-two with Wendy Holdener on Saturday as American Mikaela Shiffrin missed out on a record 16th career medal at the Alpine Skiing World Championships. Austria's Katharina Liensberger took the bronze on home snow in the last women's race of the 13-day championships in Saalbach.
