When I open Word, it automatically evokes a new file (Document1) as a blank document page. That’s fine if I want to start a new document, but more often than not, I just want to open an existing file.

To resolve the 'Word cannot open the existing file (Normal.dotm)' error, reset the Normal.dotm file, use Open and Repair, and disable add-ins.
