Austinites are off to the races as NASCAR at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) begins this weekend, Feb. 28 through March 2.

Construction is ongoing with visible progress on two roller coasters, and there are tentative plans to open the amusement park in time for the next Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, which starts Oct. 19, said Stacy Weiss, vice president of theme park marketing at COTA.

Daniel Suárez (98.482 sec.) was fastest in Group 1 and will start fifth over Trackhouse Racing teammate Shane Van Gisbergen (98.519 sec.). Kyle Larson, Kyle Busch, Ross Chastain, and Todd Gilliland round out the top 10 starting spots.
