The Houston Fire Department says a firefighter who has served the city since 2003 has died after suffering a medical emergency over the holidays.

The Houston Fire Department said it will be a long road to recovery for three Station 46 firefighters who were significantly burned while trapped by a heavy door, prompting a mayday call.

In response to reports of people trapped in a fire, Houston Fire Department crews were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 4800 block of Jarmese Street around 5:35 a.m. Tuesday, Brent Taylor, a spokesperson for the fire department said.
