President Donald Trump issued an executive order Tuesday to expedite permits and remove local or state government delays for Los Angeles County residents rebuilding after last year’s devastating wildfires.

Instead of going through the usual regulatory process, residents using federal emergency funds to rebuild would have certify compliance with local standards.

Trump’s support among California Republicans has slipped to 79%, down from 84% near the start of his term.

In an unprecedented decision, the president issued an executive order to strip permitting authority for rebuilding from local officials and hand it to the federal government.
