When speaking to reporters on Thursday, she was asked whether she would be making a run for governor of California. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s term is up in 2027, leaving the race wide open for potential contenders. Harris did not rule out running for the seat, instead focusing her comments on the relief efforts in California.

Only former U.S. Rep. Katie Porter – who has declared – would be remotely comparable, but Porter has already clarified that Harris’ entrance would “clear the field.”
