The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning the public of salmonella illness outbreak linked to backyard poultry. Seven people across six states have fallen ill after being in contact with chickens and ducks.

You can get sick from touching your backyard poultry, or anything in their environment, and then touching your mouth or food and swallowing the germs.

At least seven people have gotten sick after coming in contact with the poultry, but only one person in Illinois has become ill.
