Hot, dry and windy conditions in western Colorado have officials looking at long-term plans to fight numerous fires
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park remains evacuated and closed due to the South Rim Fire, which grew to nearly 4,000 acres by Monday morning and remains zero percent contained.

MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A wildfire burning in western Colorado continues to grow after forcing nearby homes and a national park to evacuate. As of Tuesday morning, the South Rim Fire remains 0 percent contained and has grown to 3,988 acres.
The Wright Draw Fire, near Gateway, Colorado, burned an estimated 34 acres Friday afternoon, according to the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit. Aerial crews continue to monitor the fire as plans to suppress it are underway.
We are continuing to track the fires all across western Colorado, with the South Rim Fire within the Black Canyon of the Gunnison seeing over 1,600 acres burned as of midnight this morning.
"You literally never know how fast something like that can happen... I've never experienced this," said Joshua Paige, who works near the Grand Canyon.
