Meta, the technology company, is pushing to build the world’s longest undersea cable system with the vision of redefining digital connectivity between India and the United States. Project Waterworth, the ambitious name given to this project, will stretch 50,000 kilometers over five continents and beyond the Earth’s surface.

In a groundbreaking move, Meta has announced the launch of Project Waterworth, an initiative to lay the world's longest subsea internet cable. The project, which will span over 50,000km, will improve connectivity across several regions including India, Brazil, South Africa and the US.

Meta is planning a 50,000 kilometer submarine cable network with the "Waterworth" project. South Africa, India and Australia are to be connected from the USA.

The project will be a multi-billion dollar, multi-year investment to strengthen the scale and reliability of the world’s digital highways.

Social media major Meta on Saturday tagged India as one of its largest markets to be connected with the company's world's longest undersea cable "Project Waterworth" which is expected to be operational by the end of this decade.

Subsea cable projects are the backbone of global digital infrastructure, accounting for more than 95 per cent of intercontinental traffic.

The social media giant says the multibillion-dollar project will connect the United States, India, Brazil, South Africa and other regions.
