Erin became a Category 5 hurricane as of Saturday morning, packing winds over 160 miles per hour, and is passing north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico Saturday evening.

Erin, the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season, has been downgraded to Category 3, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said early on Sunday, as the storm's wind speed eased slightly.

A flash flood warning has been issued for Saint Thomas and Saint John in the US Virgin Islands, as Erin’s outer rain bands moved across the area, the US National Weather Service said.
