Kentucky Derby runner-up and Preakness winner Journalism has opened as the 8-5 favorite in the Belmont Stakes to close out the Triple Crown.

Trainer Michael McCarthy said that “based off what I saw here this morning, I’d be hard-pressed to find a reason not to enter” Journalism in the Belmont Stakes.

Journalism, winner of the Preakness (G1) after a runner-up finish in the Kentucky Derby (G1), has been confirmed for the $2-million Belmont (G1) Saturday at Saratoga. Trainer Michael McCarthy made the announcement Sunday morning after the Curlin colt breezed a half mile under Umberto Rispoli in :47.54 on the main track at Saratoga.
