WASHINGTON — One was a businessman turned reality TV star twice elected president. The other was a professional wrestler who became politically active later in life.

The WWE Hall of Famer, who died on Thursday at the age of 71, had supported former President Barack Obama in 2008.

Hulk Hogan, a wrestling icon of the 1980s, captivated audiences with his larger-than-life persona. Known for his patriotic image and electrifying performances, Hogan became a symbol of American culture.

Daily was one of many who publicly admired Hogan in the hours after he died. In his memorable tribute, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who followed Hulk's path from wrestler to movie star, called him a " childhood hero ."
