Hundreds of AmeriCorps members in Iowa are scrambling for housing and jobs after the federal government abruptly terminated funding for the program this week.

Iowa's nonprofit sector is facing a crisis as federal cuts ordered by the Trump administration are causing mass layoffs, shuttered programs and fewer services across the state, multiple organizations tell Axios.

AmeriCorps has long provided on-the-ground support to essential community programs in much the same way the Peace Corps does abroad.
