Authorities in Kenya have arrested a senior police officer responsible for the cell where a blogger died, leading to widespread protests in the capital, Nairobi, that left dozens injured.

Outrage over the death of a Kenyan teacher and activist in police custody sparked protests in the capital Nairobi this week after doctors refuted a police claim that he had died in his cell from a self-inflicted head injury.

Albert Ojwang, a 31-year-old teacher and political blogger, based in Voi, was arrested in Homa Bay, his home county, and then transferred to Central Police Station in Nairobi. The arrest came in response to alleged insulting remarks he made on social media about a senior government official.
