The sixth locomotive in CSX’s new heritage series is here! Locomotive 1850, designed and painted at the CSX Locomotive Shop in Waycross, Georgia, honors the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Originally chartered in 1850, the L&N grew into a vital transportation link between the Gulf Coast and the nation’s heartland. It was eventually absorbed by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, which subsequently became part of the Chessie System and, ultimately, today’s CSX. | CSX

CSX’s newest heritage locomotive commemorates the proud history of the Western Maryland Railway, which formed in 1852! The Western Maryland was a small but mighty railroad that hauled coal and freight in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania before merging with the B&O and C&O to eventually become part of CSX as we know it today.
