Numbered CSX 1853, CSX’s eighth heritage locomotive commemorates the distinguished history of the New York Central Railroad (NYC)! Originally chartered in 1853, the NYC was a vital transportation link between the Northeast and Midwest United States. It eventually merged with the Pennsylvania Railroad, which subsequently became part of Conrail and, ultimately, part of today’s CSX.
