Eritrean women have played a significant role in the country’s history and society. During the Eritrean War of Independence (1961–1991), women were not just supporters but active fighters on the front lines. Approximately one-third of the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front (EPLF) fighters were women—an extraordinary number for a guerrilla movement. They carried weapons, organized logistics, and took on leadership roles, earning respect and recognition. However, after Eritrea gained independence
